STAR WARS EPISODE 9: COLIN TREVORROW OUT, J.J ABRAMS BACK IN.

Filmmaker Colin Trevorrow at the Book of Henry premiere

In yet another 'course correction' during production for a Star Wars film, Lucasfilm has ditched Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow. No word on the why or how but it's not great news for Trevorrow, whose latest release Book of Henry received a critical pasting after its premiere. It's known that Rian Johnson (Looper), who's putting the finishing touches on Star Wars: The Last Jedi was originally being discussed as the director of both Episode 8 and Episode 9.

Given the consistency and surefootedness that Lucasfilm seem to desire in the filmmakers they collaborate with, this seemed like a fairly likely proposition. Johnson is now a known quantity and has proven himself to be an able filmmaker within the Lucasfilm circle of trust. All this proved moot a few days ago however, when J.J Abrams was announced as the newly appointed director of the final entry in the Skywalker saga. Looks like Lucasfilm are sticking with what they know works.

Star Wars Episode 9 is due due for release Christmas, 2019.
